Lumbar disc herniation and cervical disc herniation are common spinal conditions in which the soft inner portion of an intervertebral disc protrudes through its outer layer and compresses adjacent nerve roots. Depending on the location and severity of the herniation, patients may experience neck or lower back pain, pain radiating to the arms or legs (radiculopathy), numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and limitations in daily activities.
Although surgery may be necessary in selected cases, most patients can be managed successfully with conservative treatment. A personalized physical therapy and rehabilitation program may include therapeutic exercises, posture and ergonomics training, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and muscle-strengthening exercises. Early evaluation and appropriate treatment can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore functional independence.
